USSD, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data, is a standard used for transmitting information over the signaling channels of a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network. USSD provides session-based communication, enabling a variety of applications. GSM carriers are increasingly interested in leveraging existing voice and DTMF applications to run them on faster, more cost-effective menu-based text phone applications using USSD. XHTML is a markup standard that is widely supported for mobile phone browsers.
